BWJ 024: Inventing Element Zero; Reading Bitcoin Code; The Bitcoin Reformation; and more...
This week: When does getting philosophical reap rewards? Why is paying closer attention to the technology important? What is the relevance between the Protestant Reformation and Bitcoin?
Inventing Element Zero
When does getting philosophical reap rewards?
What a great conversation this was! I found myself smirking along at points, through to nodding my head in avid agreement, with insightful truth-bombs flying all over the place. What is wrong with democracy as a popularity contest? Is it possible that Bitcoin represents another element on the periodic table? Why is Bitcoin a discovery and not an invention?
Make no mistake, Knut Svanholm and Robert Breedlove are two of the finest Bitcoin proponents, consistently pushing boundaries with strikingly measured reasoning. Every point had been thought through, with quotes interspersed, a discussion truly building on the “shoulders of giants”.
It’s impossible to predict what will happen in the future, but with this kind of curious, educated, and thought-provoking culture, we’re sure to witness extraordinary outcomes. Perhaps the utopia of a digital renaissance, built atop sound money, isn’t that far away after all…
Reading Bitcoin Code
Why is paying closer attention to the technology important?
As stated last week, I am not an engineer, and never will be. Saying that however, on finishing “Mastering Bitcoin” by Andreas Antonopoulos, part of me rather wished I was!
No doubt I will have to re-read this wonderful book at some point, and I expect a lot of the terminology foreign to me first time around, will become more relevant as my journey down the proverbial rabbit hole continues. I highly recommend every aspiring Bitcoiner have a crack at reading this as well, for the simple reason it helped truly solidify my respect for the engineering, which even to the non-technical is clearly very impressive.
This book arms one with knowledge of ‘how’ Bitcoin actually works, which is a welcome addition to the arsenal of any orange-pilling pleb, often better rehearsed in the macro picture of ‘why’ Bitcoin is important. I am going to be forever grateful of high-quality content like this, available for such low cost, and packed with valuable knowledge.
The Bitcoin Reformation
What is the relevance between the Protestant Reformation and Bitcoin?
“The Bitcoin Reformation” by Tuur Demeester, takes one on a journey back in time, to the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. Without ruining it entirely, it’s well worth your time, as its one of the best historically framed Bitcoin opinion piece’s I’ve read.
What I particularly like are the parallels drawn, highlighting the characteristics prevalent then and today, in regards to societal structure. To quote: “rent-seeking monopolistic service provider”, “technological revolution”, “new economic class”, and “credible strategies for defence and escape”; sound familiar?
The chronicles of History have so much value held within, wisdom that we should be encouraged to unearth, ready and waiting to help us build a better future. With essays like this, we’re able to unpack some of the knowledge, and re-apply it to today.
